I am writing on behalf of William “Bill” Bernal, whom I have known for several years through our church community. Bill has asked if I could speak specifically to his abilities as a teacher. In the interest of being accurate, I have had limited opportunity to observe Bill teaching and speaking publicly, and he does so with fervor and passion.

I can also speak to the fact that the Bill I have come to know personally, is a man who takes his education and his desire to serve others seriously. Over the years, I have seen Bill continue to pursue opportunities for learning, ministry, and service, even through significant challenges and transitions in his own life.

Bill spent many years working as a mason, an experience that I believe has given him a valuable perspective on hard work, perseverance, and the lives of people who build careers outside of traditional academic and professional paths. At the same time, he has made a substantial personal investment in his own education and training, including graduate-level coursework and extensive training in crisis response, compassionate care, and stress management. I have respected his willingness to continue learning and preparing himself for opportunities to serve others.

One of the qualities I have consistently observed in Bill is persistence. When he believes something is important, he is willing to invest himself in it and continue pursuing it. He has a sincere desire to contribute to his community and to use both his life experience and education in ways that benefit others.

I can personally verify Bill's enthusiasm as a teacher and attest to his commitment to learning, his work ethic, and his genuine desire to serve people and his community. I hope these observations are helpful as you consider Bill and the experiences and perspective he would bring to public service.
